Thor and BankNordik will face off against the Ministry of Fisheries in the Eastern High Court, Landsrætturinn, tomorrow.
Thor and BankNordik have appealed a ruling made by the Faroese Court to the Eastern High Court. The other party involved is the Ministry of Fisheries, which the Faroese Court previously ruled in favor of.
The case dates back to 2014, when a vessel owned by Thor was denied a trial permit to fish for salmon. As a result, Thor and BankNordik filed a lawsuit against the Ministry.
The compensation claim from Thor and BankNordik against the Ministry had escalated to nearly six million Danish kroner. The Faroese Bank purchased the deep-sea trawler Phoenix at a forced auction on November 25, 2008, and by the end of 2009, Thor acquired the ship from the bank.
Prior to the forced sale, the Phoenix had trial permits to fish for salmon, along with two other vessels. However, it turned out that there were no trial permits granted specifically for salmon fishing.
According to the ruling from the Faroese court, Thor and BankNordik are also required to pay the Ministry of Fisheries 225,000 kroner in legal costs.
Tomorrow, the case will be heard in the Eastern High Court. The fifth division of the Eastern High Court is currently in the Faroe Islands this week and next.
