Advertisement calls on Päivi Korpivaara to withdraw complaint against Hippos sports center in Jyväskylä

On Sunday, the local newspaper Keskisuomalainen featured a full-page advertisement that read, “Päivi. We kindly ask from the bottom of our hearts that you withdraw your complaint. For the sake of children, sports, healthy indoor air, and JYP.” The ad was signed by Antti K. and Mika L.

This advertisement references a complaint filed by Jyväskylä City Council’s deputy member Päivi Korpivaara with the administrative court regarding the construction of the Hippos sports center. According to Keskisuomalainen’s media card, the cost of such a full-page advertisement is just over €11,600.

The Hippos center is planned to be nearly the size of two Nokia Arenas in Tampere upon completion, with construction expected to begin later this year. Project manager Ville Niskakankaan stated that the complaint process could take considerable time, meaning that even if the complaint is dismissed by the administrative court, it would not save the project.
