Construction truck overturns onto daycare facility in Verkkosaari, Helsinki

A construction truck equipped with a loading crane overturned onto the storage facility of a daycare in Verkkosaari, Helsinki, on Thursday afternoon, according to the city of Helsinki. The incident occurred within a designated safety area of the construction site, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

This incident marks the third near-miss situation at the site this autumn. Earlier reports highlight two dangerous events: in October, a hammer fell from a height next to a pedestrian at the daycare entrance, and in September, scaffolding collapsed into the daycare yard.

In response to these safety concerns, the city of Helsinki has ordered a halt to construction work near the daycare. This halted project involves the construction of rental housing, commissioned by the city’s housing production department. As the client, the city has instructed the contractor to suspend all activities until it can be ensured that work can continue safely. Additionally, the regional administration office will conduct an inspection at the construction site.
