Sælukot preschool in Reykjavik closed due to mouse infestation
The Sælukot preschool in Reykjavik has been closed due to a mouse infestation discovered during a routine inspection by the Reykjavik Health Inspectorate. This closure, confirmed by the health authority, will remain in effect until the mice have been trapped and removed from the premises.
Gunnlaugur Sigurðsson, the director of Sælukot, stated that it would be unsafe for children to remain in the preschool while the infestation persists. The health authorities determined that the situation warranted immediate closure to address the issue appropriately.
In the meantime, the closure will also allow for thorough cleaning of the building and its toys. The city will assess the operational aspects of Sælukot further as they navigate this situation.
The preschool’s closure is intended to ensure the health and safety of the children and staff. No reopening date has been announced, as the health inspectorate will need to confirm that the premises are free of pests before resuming operations.
