Shortly after Donald Trump was indicated by the AP news agency as the winner of the U.S. presidential election, Denmark’s government leadership held a press conference in the Mirror Hall at Christiansborg. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen began by congratulating the 47th president.

“All signs point to a significant and convincing political victory. The American people have spoken, and a new president can soon start his work,” she stated.

During the press conference, Frederiksen emphasized that Denmark considers the U.S. to be its closest ally, a relationship that remains unchanged.

“We look forward to once again collaborating with President Trump and the administration that will take office in the White House,” she added.

Frederiksen also noted that NATO is essential for ensuring freedom and security. During Trump’s previous presidential term, he criticized NATO countries for their defense spending, claiming that the U.S. took on too much responsibility for the security of other nations.

Since then, the war in Europe has escalated, and the continued support for Ukraine’s efforts against Russia remains a priority for the Danish government.

Frederiksen observed that the world has recently witnessed Russia strengthening ties with Iran, North Korea, and China.

“Therefore, it is essential that the transatlantic bond not only continues but also strengthens. It is the NATO alliance that secures vast portions of the free world. Our freedom and security depend on it,” the Prime Minister concluded.
