A mother has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the tragic death of her six-year-old son and for attempted murder against her older son. The court decision, which has not yet been publicly announced, was made today, with details expected to be released tomorrow.

In late January, the boy was found dead at the family home in Kópavogur, where he lived with his mother and his eleven-year-old brother. The mother was accused of placing a pillow over her younger son’s face while he was asleep on the couch. It is alleged that she pressed down with both hands on his face and neck until she realized he was no longer breathing.

Afterward, she reportedly went into the bedroom where her older son was sleeping on his stomach and covered his face with one hand while gripping his neck with the other, pressing his face into the bed so he could not breathe. The older boy managed to wake up, loosen his mother’s grip, and escape from the house.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its tragic nature. The court proceedings have been closed to the media, and the prosecution is expected to provide an official statement shortly.
