Collaboration between Fuglafjordur and Eystur municipalities to continue amid new agreement negotiations

The collaboration regarding the upper secondary school between Fuglafjordur municipality and Eystur municipality, known as Skúlasamstarvið Framvit, is set to continue for at least a while longer.

According to the Eysturoy portal, a new agreement is in the works, which is intended as an addition to the current agreement. This new contract will feature a shorter duration and different financial terms.

Per Martin Gregersen, the mayor of Eystur municipality, previously threatened to terminate the school collaboration and instead establish an independent upper secondary school for Eystur municipality. On March 9 of this year, he mentioned to Kringvarpið that there were strong reasons for Eystur municipality to manage its own upper secondary school.

However, it now appears that a change of course has occurred. Kringvarpið spoke with Gregersen, inquiring about his change in stance. He declined to comment in an interview but stated that the plan involves shortening the current agreement, altering financial terms, and including a clause that allows for withdrawal from the agreement under certain conditions.

Additional municipal council meetings are scheduled for both Eystur municipality and Fuglafjordur municipality on Friday, where the modified agreement will be discussed.
