Heavy rainfall forecasted for southern and western regions of Norway
Heavy rainfall is forecasted for southern and western regions of the country over the next few days. The conditions could lead to rising water levels in rivers and streams, as well as the risk of debris flows and landslides in areas with steep slopes. Additionally, rocks may become dislodged due to saturated soil.
The Meteorological Institute warns that the ground will be waterlogged and unable to dry out between rainfalls. This situation is compounded by unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, which have resulted in frost exiting the soil, and the snowline remaining high in the mountains.
In light of these circumstances, the Landslide Watch team advises the public to exercise caution when traveling beneath steep slopes, to be observant of their surroundings, and to avoid lingering in riverbeds for extended periods.
