A new, exceptional walking route from Pispala in Tampere to Näsijärvi will open to the public starting Tuesday. The Santalahti pedestrian bridge, crossing the railway, will be accessible from 10 AM. This bridge is unique because it connects to a tower in a residential building at Santalahti, allowing visitors to continue their journey down to ground level via an elevator.

On the other side of the railway, a covered walkway links to the sidewalk along Pispalan valtatien, providing easier access for pedestrians. According to Jukka Rantala, a construction engineer for the city of Tampere, the bridge’s construction has gone according to plan. Three steel truss sections were lifted and connected one by one above the main railway. The bridge has since been completed and prepared for use.

While cycling or riding electric scooters on the bridge is prohibited, these can be pushed across the bridge and transported via the elevator located in the tower.

Residents of Pispala and Santalahti experienced some disruptions during the bridge’s installation as construction work occurred overnight. For a visual glimpse of the bridge’s assembly, a video from August captures the nighttime efforts of the workers.
