Jesper Binzer reveals opioid addiction struggle in candid podcast interview
Jesper Binzer, the lead singer of the Danish band D-A-D, shared his harrowing experience with opioid addiction in a podcast. It all began with back pain, a doctor’s prescription, and some painkillers, ultimately leading to a daily opioid dependency that lasted 22 months. Binzer recounted his method of taking pills at around 10 a.m., gradually increasing from 50 mg to 100 mg. He had a hidden stash of pills stored in his luggage under the stairs, which provided him both presence and relief.
Over the years, he started wishing for tramadol, also known as dololer, as birthday gifts, saying that the drug helped him achieve a level of calm he had never experienced before and relieved his lifelong insomnia. However, it took years before he realized he had become dependent on the opioids, secretly seeking more to sustain his nightly routine.
Despite the toll his addiction took on his life, including the end of his marriage, Binzer reflects on the experience without regret. He sees it as a valuable lesson, though he acknowledges the dangers of opioids. He warns others of their perilous nature, believing they can fundamentally alter a person’s DNA and lead to destruction.
Binzer has unfortunately witnessed the devastating effects of opioids firsthand, knowing several young individuals who lost their lives due to addiction. He emphasizes that many of them felt hopeless, believing their nerve pathways were irreparably damaged. Today, it’s been six years since Binzer quit opioids, having gone cold turkey and refrained from using them since.
