Investigation launched into workplace accident at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Finland

The Southern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency has launched an investigation into a workplace accident at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The incident, which occurred early on Saturday morning, November 2, resulted in the death of an employee. The accident happened during the relocation of a Finnair aircraft, when the individual became trapped between the plane and a toilet service vehicle.

According to the Eastern Uusimaa Police, the investigation is focused on how the accident occurred and the circumstances surrounding the fatality. Jarkko Niemi, the chief inspector for occupational safety at the Southern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency, confirmed to Yle that the agency has started its inquiry and has already been in contact with the deceased’s employer.

The investigation aims to determine the cause of the incident and to explore measures to prevent similar accidents in the future. Niemi stated that the goal is to complete the investigation within a month.

Crime Commissioner Kaisamaria Holappa from the Eastern Uusimaa Police commented that the charges being considered in the case include involuntary manslaughter and endangerment of traffic safety.
