Norway and Russia agree to reduce cod quota in Barents Sea by 25 percent

The cod quota in the Barents Sea will be reduced by 25 percent next year, as agreed upon by Norway and Russia.

The recommendation from fisheries scientists in both countries had been a 31 percent cut. The total cod quota for next year will be set at 340,000 tons, with Norway allocated 163,436 tons. This marks Norway’s lowest cod quota in the Barents Sea since 1991.

As a result of this reduction, the Faroe Islands will receive one-quarter less cod from the Barents Sea next year.
