The government intends to tighten regulations regarding the statute of limitations for crimes. A new legislative proposal suggests eliminating the statute of limitations for all crimes that carry a life sentence. Additionally, the time limits for several serious offenses will be extended, including rape, aggravated assault, weapons offenses, and robbery. Moreover, prison sentences, regardless of their length, will no longer be subject to expiration. This means that individuals sentenced to prison will not be able to evade their punishment by simply avoiding capture. The proposed changes are expected to take effect this spring.
