Fire breaks out in apartment building in Kópavogur, no injuries reported
A fire broke out in an apartment building in Kópavogur during the early hours of the morning, resulting in significant damage but no injuries. Firefighters received a call about the incident at approximately 4 AM, and upon arrival, they discovered a large fire emanating from one of the six apartments in the building.
A family of four living in the affected apartment managed to escape without serious harm and sought medical assistance at the local emergency department as a precaution. Fire officials reported that the apartment suffered severe damage due to high temperatures from the blaze. The firefighters worked for an hour and a half to extinguish the flames successfully.
The swift actions of the family allowed them to exit the burning unit unharmed, and, while other nearby apartments were evacuated as a safety measure, residents were later allowed to return to their homes.
The Fire Department stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown, and local police are now investigating the incident to determine its origins. Smoke damage can be seen on the balconies of the building, highlighting the fire’s intensity. Weather conditions were reported to be cool and mostly clear on the day following the incident.
