Vote among Icelandic Medical Association could lead to nationwide strikes starting November 18

Thursday 31st October 2024 on 11:19 in Iceland

A vote among members of the Icelandic Medical Association regarding potential strike actions is set to conclude at 4 PM today. If the proposed measures are approved, a series of four-day strikes will begin at midnight on November 18.

The strikes will see doctors across the country participating, with each worksite observing a full day of action. As of this morning, nearly 80% of the 1,250 eligible physicians had cast their votes.

No formal meetings with negotiation committees have been scheduled, but workgroups are expected to convene at Karphúsið later this afternoon.
