Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa to close Teivo ABC service station in Tampere and Ylöjärvi due to business unprofitability
Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa is set to close the Teivo ABC service station, with its restaurants and shop operating for the last time on November 30. The closure is attributed to prolonged business unprofitability. Antti Heikkinen, CEO of Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa, noted that the location—on the border of Tampere and Ylöjärvi—presents challenges.
“The competition in the areas of Lielahden, Lamminpään, and Ylöjärvi is intense, and we have not seen sufficient customer traffic,” he explained. Furthermore, although Ylöjärvi city plans to develop housing for thousands of residents in the area, the cooperative does not intend to wait for this to materialize.
“There are significant plans for area development, but from our perspective, these will take too long to realize—around ten years,” Heikkinen added.
Meanwhile, Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa aims to offer employment to the staff of ABC Teivo at other locations within the chain. Despite the service station closing, the car wash, refueling point, and electric charging station will continue operations as usual. The cooperative is actively seeking tenants for its property.
The ABC Teivo service station first opened in June 2013, and its architecture and interior were inspired by the nearby Teivo racetrack and local horse racing culture.
