The Swedish metal band Ghost is set to perform at the Tampere Arena on May 20, 2025. Renowned for their elaborate and theatrical performances, the band’s concert announcement comes with a unique and surprising event in Tampere’s city center.

On Tuesday, the bells of the Frenckell Bell Tower, located next to the Central Square, will play the melody of Ghost’s hit song “Mary On a Cross.” The music will ring out on the hour from 10 AM to 8 PM. The arrangement for the bells was created by sound designer and musician Jenni Mäkelä. “It’s incredibly exciting that the Frenckell bells will this time resonate to the rhythm of heavier music. It tickles the soul of a metal enthusiast like me,” Mäkelä commented in a press release.

The city of Tampere is welcoming Ghost with enthusiasm. “We are truly excited to have this fantastic band as a guest in our city of events. Tampere has a strong rock music tradition and is one of Finland’s key centers for heavy music. There will surely be a wide array of eager fans here,” said Saara Saarteinen, Event Coordinator for the city of Tampere.

Notably, the concert will be a phone-free experience. Ghost last performed in Finland in April 2022 at the same venue. However, there is a significant change from their previous visit: phones, cameras, and other recording devices will be strictly prohibited during the concert. Devices will be placed in pouches that will only be opened after the event concludes. Attendees will retain possession of their devices throughout the event, but phones cannot be used for buying food, drinks, or merchandise; separate payment methods will be required for purchases.
