Two trams involved in a collision in Tampere could be out of service for several months. The incident occurred last Tuesday, involving a training tram and another. Both trams sustained damage to their chassis. While Tampere has spare trams available, the absence of these vehicles may result in service cancellations, with some trips already being canceled.

The collision took place when a tram traveling from the train station towards Keskustori turned towards Hatanpää after the Koskipuisto stop and collided with an oncoming tram. At the time of the accident, there were approximately 50 passengers on board the trams, but fortunately, no one was injured. The trams were moving at walking pace during the incident.

The tram involved in the training operations had a student and an instructor in the driver’s cabin.

Additionally, Tampere’s tram network is set to expand to Lentävänniemi on January 7, 2025. However, it remains unclear if the current tram situation could impact the service frequency for this new route.

According to the Central Finland Police Department, it is still uncertain whether the collision was caused by a technical issue or human error.
