Metsä Board Oyj, part of the Metsä Group, has announced the initiation of change negotiations concerning potential layoffs at its cardboard and chemical pulp mills in Finland. According to the company’s statement, the negotiations will affect approximately 1,100 employees across seven manufacturing locations in Joutseno, Kaskinen, Kemi, Kyröskoski, Tampere, Simpele, and Äänekoski.
The potential layoffs could last up to a maximum of 90 days and may be executed in several phases throughout the next year. The change negotiations are set to commence in week 46 and are expected to last for about two weeks.
These negotiations are a preparatory measure for potential adjustments in production to align with temporarily low delivery volumes, should the demand for cardboard not improve in the forthcoming year.
