Eero Ranne, a floorball player, skillfully balances his athletic and musical passions. A piano performance video he posted on TikTok as a half-joke last summer has not only garnered 626,500 views but also landed him gigs. “I can’t talk about studio performances yet, but in November, I will perform on stage as a keyboardist,” says the soon-to-be 19-year-old Ranne. This is no ordinary concert; Ranne will share the stage with legends of Porirock, including bands like Dingo, Yö, and Mamba. Playing with Even’s band is a significant milestone for his family as well. “He might not even realize it himself,” laughs his father, Toni Ranne.

TikTok has become the go-to platform for Finnish youth aged 12–17 to discover new music, with a study indicating that 23% find new artists there, comparable to discovering them through friends. Traditional radio channels account for only 8% of music discovery among this demographic. Mirroring Ranne’s success, fellow musician Mirella had her career boosted through cover songs on TikTok.

Despite taking his musical ambitions seriously, Ranne embraces the fun side of social media, enjoying light-hearted moments with friends. His musical talent has been evident to those close to him, as he has played classical piano since childhood at the Palmgren Conservatory. Ranne’s room is filled with instruments, including a piano, synthesizers, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a home studio.

Ranne’s recent TikTok video, where he tagged Mirella while playing her song “Luotathan,” has received overwhelming positive feedback. The encouragement has opened up new opportunities, prompting Ranne to consider a greater role for music in his future career. For now, he balances music as a hobby with playing for the FTB Karhut United floorball team, while also working as a teaching assistant. Although his schedule is busy, he views it as a positive challenge that keeps him focused.
