The Midparty has confirmed its candidate lists for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections in Iceland. Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, the party leader, will again head the list in the Northeast constituency, where he has served as a member of parliament throughout his political career. Joining him in the top positions are contractors Þorgrímur Sigmundsson and Ágústa Ágústsdóttir, who is also a tourism entrepreneur.

In the Northwest constituency, a new leader has been chosen following Bergþór Ólason’s decision to relocate to the capital area. Ingibjörg Davíðsdóttir, chair of the Icelandic Food Cluster and a former ambassador, will lead the list this time. Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, a former MP and minister, is making a return after opting out of reelection four years ago. He ranks second on the list, just ahead of Sigurður Páll Jónsson, the party’s deputy MP and a former member.

The Midparty’s lists across both constituencies highlight a keen interest in securing seats, with more candidates vying for positions than ever before.
