Thirty-five children are currently under medical observation at Landspítali University Hospital due to an E. coli outbreak linked to Mánagarður preschool in Reykjavík. Four of these children are hospitalized, with two in intensive care.

Authorities believe the children were infected last week, with cases confirmed in six out of seven preschool departments. All food served at the preschool is prepared on-site.

In response to the outbreak, two departments at Óskalandi preschool in Hveragerði were closed after a child, who had attended Mánagarður, tested positive for E. coli. This child had begun their adaptation period at Óskalandi on Monday.

The health department is monitoring the situation closely as they continue to investigate the source of the infection and ensure the safety of all preschool children and staff.
