The 2024 Nordic Council meeting will take place in Reykjavík from October 28 to 31. Authorities have announced that there will be street closures in downtown Reykjavík and heightened security measures in effect during the event. Armed police officers will be present to ensure safety.

The meeting is expected to gather 87 members of the Nordic Council along with Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and other delegates from the Nordic countries, as well as numerous guests. The police have indicated that the Icelandic state holds certain responsibilities when hosting national leaders from other countries, with their security being a primary concern.

As part of the security arrangements, several streets in downtown Reykjavík will be closed during the meeting. Vonarstræti will be closed between Lækjargötu and Suðurgötu, and Templarasund and Kirkjustræti from Pósthússtræti will also be closed. Tjarnargata between Vonarstræti and Kirkjustræti will face closures, impacting traffic flow.

The parking garage at Reykjavík City Hall will close to all traffic on October 28 at 8:00 AM, coinciding with the street closures. These restrictions will remain in place until 4:00 PM on October 30, when the closures are set to be lifted. Additionally, public access to City Hall will be restricted from October 26 until October 31.
