Memorial for President Martti Ahtisaari to be unveiled at Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki

A memorial for President Martti Ahtisaari will be unveiled on Father’s Day, Sunday, November 10, at the Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki. This date also coincides with Martin’s name day. The monument, named “Autuas,” has been designed by artist and architect Harri Pakarinen.

The unveiling marks one year since President Ahtisaari’s funeral. He is buried in Hietaniemi, an area that also contains the graves of former presidents Urho Kekkonen, Mauno Koivisto, and Risto Ryti.

The event will be broadcast live on Yle TV1 and Yle Areena starting at 11:50 AM. Speakers at the ceremony will include President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The memorial will be open to the public around 1:30 PM.
