Students report high victimization rates in national school violence survey in Sweden
In a recent survey, 45.3% of ninth-grade students reported having been victims of crime in the past year, a statistic that remains consistent with the findings from 2021. The survey, which included responses from 4,228 ninth graders across over 400 schools nationwide, focused on experiences of victimization and involvement in criminal activity during the last twelve months. Notably, incidents of physical sexual crimes have reached their lowest level since 2015.
The school violence survey is conducted biennially among ninth-grade students. This year’s survey was designed to assess the trends in self-reported experiences of crime and participation in crime over time.
The findings are significant for understanding the overall safety concerns among youth.
