Deadline approaching for candidate lists in Iceland’s parliamentary elections

The deadline for submitting candidate lists for Iceland’s upcoming parliamentary elections is October 31, one month before the election date on November 30. Political parties are currently busy finalizing their candidate lists across all constituencies.

The Social Democratic Party is expected to release its candidate list for the Southern constituency tomorrow following a regional council meeting, with other lists announced on Saturday. Reports indicate that Kristrún Frostadóttir will lead in the Southern Reykjavik constituency, while Alma Möller is anticipated to lead in the Southwest constituency.

The Centre Party has not yet revealed when its candidate lists will be announced. However, it is known that media figure Snorri Másson and former Independence Party MP Sigríður Á. Andersen are vying for nomination in Reykjavik.

Reform Party plans to present its Northern constituency list tonight and lists for Reykjavik and the Southern constituency tomorrow, with others released Saturday. Competition is strong in Reykjavik, with notable candidates including Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir.

Meanwhile, the Independence Party will likely disclose its list for the Southwest constituency tomorrow. Current chairman Bjarni Benediktsson is set to occupy the top two spots alongside Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir.

The Progressive Party’s candidate list for the Northwest constituency is set to be released this Friday, with Halla Hrund Logadóttir expected to lead in the Southern constituency.

The Pirate Party concluded its primary elections recently and will announce its lists shortly.

The Left-Green Movement will reveal its candidate lists for both Northwestern and Reykjavik constituencies this Saturday.

Several other parties are finalizing their lists and evaluating their candidates, as the election frenzy builds in the lead-up to the upcoming parliamentary elections.
