Gitmark steps down as chairman of Vipers Kristiansand amid financial struggles
Peter Gitmark has announced that he will step down as chairman of the Vipers Kristiansand handball club. His decision comes after challenging days spent seeking financial support for the club, which is currently experiencing financial difficulties. Gitmark has expressed the need to focus on his existing job and family life, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced approach.
Vipers’ managing director, Magnus Aglen, expressed disappointment over Gitmark’s departure but praised his contributions during a particularly extraordinary period for the club. Recently, Vipers narrowly avoided bankruptcy thanks to a local group led by Morten Jørgensen. Gitmark highlighted the urgency for the club’s board to focus on increasing revenue by securing more national and international sponsors. He remains optimistic that Vipers can turn its financial situation around and has offered to serve as an external advisor.
Reflecting on his time leading the club, Gitmark noted that his decision was tough, especially considering the significant efforts put in by the board since March. The club needs to achieve financial stability immediately and prioritize attracting new sponsorship agreements.
Looking ahead, Vipers will be holding an extraordinary general meeting on October 28, where a new board will be elected. The club will transition away from its dual-structure organization, with Våg IK taking over market rights. Gitmark emphasized that new board members with a diverse skill set are essential for moving forward and resolving the club’s ongoing financial challenges.
