Ilkka Sasi, the recently removed deputy mayor of Tampere, has announced his withdrawal from the municipal election candidacy for the National Coalition Party. Sasi confirmed that he has sent a notification of his decision to the party’s municipal secretary, and discussions regarding his withdrawal have taken place with the chairperson of the local organization.

Sasi’s recent city council inquiry directed at Mayor Kalervo Kummola provoked a backlash within the party. Following the inquiry, Sasi stated that his candidacy for the elections was called into question. He has served as a city councilor in Tampere since 2009 and was notable in the last elections, receiving 1,224 votes, making him the second most popular male candidate after Kummola.

Further updates on this situation are expected soon.
