Seismic activity increases on Reykjanes Peninsula as magma accumulates beneath Svartsengi in Iceland

Seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula continues, with ongoing magma accumulation beneath Svartsengi. Current modeling indicates that the magma volume is approximately two-thirds of what had accumulated before the last eruption, which began on August 22. If magma inflow maintains its current pace, it is anticipated that the lower threshold for magma volume will be reached in early November.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has stated that if there is a significant increase in seismic activity during this period, the likelihood of a new influx of magma and the potential for another eruption may also rise.

Over the past few days, earthquake activity within the magma conduit has shown a slight increase, with approximately five quakes per day. The largest of these registered a magnitude of 1.5.
