Majority of Icelanders approve of government dissolution according to recent poll

A recent opinion poll reveals that a considerable majority of Icelanders are pleased with the decision to dissolve the governing coalition. The survey, conducted by Prósents, indicates that 71 percent of respondents express satisfaction with the government’s breakup, whereas only 10 percent are discontent. The remaining 19 percent remain neutral.

Support for the decision transcends party lines, with majorities from all political parties—except two—indicating approval. Among supporters of the Independence Party, 61 percent are satisfied, while a notable 84 percent of Socialist Party supporters share the same sentiment. Meanwhile, 45 percent of the Progressive Party’s constituents feel positively about the decision, contrasted with 39 percent who are dissatisfied. The Left-Green Movement shows the least enthusiasm, with only 36 percent approving of the dissolution, while 29 percent disapprove.

Concerns about inflation following the government’s disbandment were also addressed in the poll. Of those surveyed, 39 percent expressed significant worries about inflation, 27 percent reported minor concerns, and 34 percent had no strong opinions on the matter. Notably, women exhibited greater concerns regarding inflation than men.

The online poll was conducted from October 24 to 28, achieving a response rate of 50.3 percent. As the political landscape evolves, the public’s response to the recent developments remains a focal point of interest.
