A woman employed by Tanavassdraget Fish Management (TF) reported instances of sexual harassment by a colleague who also serves as a board member. On the same day the complaint was filed, the woman received an email termination notice from acting director Benn Larsen. Her lawyer argues that the dismissal constitutes retaliation and has criticized TF for its lack of adherence to workplace laws regarding reporting sexual harassment. TF’s board chairman, Kjell Olav Guttorm, has publicly apologized for the handling of the situation, acknowledging that it did not comply with labor laws.

Currently, the woman is on sick leave due to the effects of her termination and the harassment complaint. The accused individual had previously worked alongside her in fieldwork and holds a position on the TF board. Documented evidence indicates that the termination notice was sent late on July 31. Following the woman’s report, colleagues informed the acting director about her uncomfortable experiences.

TF has recently been funded by the state with 16 million NOK over the past four years, sparking concerns about accountability and management practices. Guttorm, who took over personnel responsibilities shortly after the complaint was made, expressed regret over the inappropriate response to the workplace allegation, emphasizing the need for proper procedures.

The woman’s lawyer claims the dismissal represents one of the most severe violations an employer can commit and insists that the treatment of her client has been retaliatory. He remains critical of the TF leadership’s lack of action regarding the alleged perpetrator and has sought public intervention due to the severity of the issue. The situation has raised awareness within the community, prompting discussions around workplace safety and the responsibilities of management in safeguarding employees.
