Bård Hoksrud, a member of the Norwegian Parliament from Telemark for the Progress Party (Frp), has reflected on a memorable photo from 2016 that shows him happily riding a jet ski. The image, captured during a demonstration hosted by the Norwegian Jet Ski Association, has become somewhat iconic, joining other instances of politicians appearing in unusual settings. Hoksrud humorously comments that while the photo has its charm, it may not be as famous as another notable image of former Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

The famed photograph of Solberg, known as “Erna in the Pond,” was auctioned recently and fetched 66,666 Norwegian crowns. During the shoot, Solberg, dressed in a blue dress, posed in a pond with the photographer, Marie Sjøvold, who aimed to create something dreamlike and visually striking. Solberg recalls the experience as peculiar, given that there were onlookers and bodyguards directing the crowd away for privacy.

Both Sjøvold and Solberg were in the water during the shoot, with Solberg expressing her satisfaction with the final result. While some politicians may be portrayed in a more serious light, photos like these help to soften their public image and bring them closer to the people.

Solberg, who has participated in swimming activities, found the experience enjoyable and believes it is important for public figures not to take themselves too seriously. Despite not being fond of having her picture taken, she has accepted that she can only be herself, saying she appreciates when people admire her photos.
