Coalition protects five schools in Drammen while considering mergers and relocations in Norway
The governing coalition in the city has decided to protect five out of the six schools that were previously flagged as at risk of closure.
“The coalition partners do not wish to send out any proposals for public consultation when we know it’s neither profitable nor appropriate to pursue further considerations. Therefore, we are safeguarding Fjell, Brandengen, Danvik, Galterud, Steinberg, Skoger, Tangen, and Vestbygda. We want to make it clear that there will be no changes at these schools for now,” stated Kristin Gjerde, a school politician with the Progress Party.
However, discussions are underway regarding the potential merger of Rødskog and Gulskogen schools. Additionally, the coalition believes there are grounds to proceed with plans to relocate adult education from Fjellheim school, aiming to save approximately 10 million Norwegian kroner.
