A fire broke out early Sunday morning on a balcony at an apartment building in the Kalasatama area of Helsinki. According to reports, thick smoke rose into the sky from the incident. The emergency services received the alarm at 9:42 AM regarding the location on Parrulaituri.

Fire Chief Timo Ustinov, who was on duty, estimated that furniture on the top-floor balcony caught fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and efforts are currently underway for post-extinguishing work and smoke ventilation.

“We are ensuring that the fire did not spread to the roof structure, and it presently does not appear that it has,” Ustinov stated. At the time of the incident, two individuals were present in the apartment. Fortunately, most of the smoke remained on the balcony, so the residents did not suffer serious injuries.

Based on the damage caused by the fire, Ustinov noted that the balcony would certainly require a complete renovation. Residents in the other units of the building did not need to be evacuated, and preliminary assessments suggested that smoke-related damage was minimal.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. The Helsinki Fire Department dispatched seven units and an ambulance to the scene.
