Police deploy significant presence in Trondheim after football fan confrontations
On Saturday night, a significant police presence was deployed in Trondheim’s city center following multiple confrontations between football fans of Rosenborg and Brann.
Police operations leader Vegar Bolås confirmed that officers had to use gas to prevent violence and to keep the supporter groups apart. He noted that while a few individuals were taken into custody, there were no reported injuries.
“The behavior displayed by the supporters is unacceptable,” stated the police in Trøndelag during the unrest.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the police have increased their resources due to concerns about potential further confrontations, particularly with Rosenborg scheduled to host Brann at Lerkendal Stadium. Bolås assured the public, “We have boosted our presence tomorrow to ensure it is safe and secure for everyone in the city.”
The football match is set to kick off at 14:30 local time on Sunday.
