Two individuals hospitalized after fire at Stuðlar facility in Reykjavík

Two individuals were hospitalized with severe smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out at the treatment facility Stuðlar at around 7 a.m. this morning. The fire department successfully extinguished the flames, but significant smoke filled the building. Emergency services were on the scene until 8 a.m., and a police investigation into the cause of the fire is currently in its early stages.

The alarm was raised shortly after 6:30 a.m., leading to the evacuation of a resident and a staff member to the emergency department of Landspítalinn. Officials from Stuðlar have refrained from commenting on the incident, but the Children and Family Agency plans to release a statement later in the day.

This incident marks the second fire at Stuðlar in just over a month. On September 5, a fire originated in a child’s room, which was suspected to be deliberate but resulted in no injuries. Technical teams are currently working at the site, and part of the facility has been closed. The Red Cross is providing crisis support following the incident.
