Police chief in Eastern Iceland requests custody of man suspected of assaulting former partner in Vopnafjörður

The police chief in Eastern Iceland has requested custody of a man suspected of assaulting his former partner. The individual was arrested last Wednesday in Vopnafjörður, following allegations of serious bodily harm against his ex-girlfriend. The investigation has been ongoing, with testimonies collected from the suspect, witnesses, and the victim.

Video footage from surveillance cameras has been obtained, and a search was conducted at the suspect’s home, where there were concerns that firearms might be stored. However, no weapons were found during the search. A restraining order was issued against the suspect, which has been communicated to him.

As the investigation progressed, the decision was made to pursue pre-trial detention for the suspect. This request will be reviewed later today.
