Giant sperm whales and distressed seal encounter reported by Hjaltur Poulsen in Klaksvík

Hjaltur Poulsen from Klaksvík experienced a rare encounter while fishing yesterday.

Giant sperm whales approached his boat, and moments later, a small seal came swimming towards him, squealing for help. The distressed seal appeared desperate to climb aboard the vessel.

Hjaltur allowed the seal to take refuge near the boat until the whales disappeared from the vicinity. He later shared on Facebook, “Seals are a favorite meal for sperm whales, and they sometimes dive under water for safety.”
