Helsinki City has announced it will accelerate safety improvements in Kaisaniemi Park. Currently undergoing renovation, the park will see enhanced lighting, increased surveillance cameras, and cleaned green areas as part of its upgrade. According to the city, these enhancements will be expedited.
The decision comes in response to a tragic incident in September, when a man fell into a construction pit on nearby Puutarhakuja, resulting in his death. The oldest park in the city center has had its lighting disabled during the renovation process.
Residents have expressed growing concerns over the park’s deteriorating conditions. “The park has been in terrible shape for decades. With the renovation underway, the situation has worsened. Drug dealing and usage are rampant in this area,” noted Mia, a local resident, in a previous report.
Mayor Juhana Vartiainen addressed the situation in a statement, underlining the city’s serious commitment to improving the park’s safety conditions.
