Two fatalities confirmed in house fire in Imatra, Finland

Two people have died in a house fire in Imatra, according to the Southeast Finland Police Department. The single-story residence caught fire on Antreankatu shortly after 5 PM on Wednesday. Approximately ten rescue units were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but tragically, the bodies of two individuals were discovered in the charred home. The police are investigating the cause of the fire. According to authorities, a bystander reported the incident to the emergency services.

Kai Tainen, the duty fire chief of the South Karelia Rescue Service, stated earlier that the fire had been brought under control. The rescue service is now dismantling the building’s structures and clearing out fire hotspots. “The building is rendered uninhabitable,” Tainen noted.
