Faroese fish exports decline despite increases in salmon and cod

Faroese fish exports have decreased over the past year.
From September 2023 to August 2024, the Faroe Islands exported fish products worth 11.9 billion Danish kroner, which marks a decline of 820 million kroner compared to the previous year. This reduction represents an eight percent decrease, according to data from the Faroese Statistics Office.
While exports of salmon, cod, and fish feed have increased, there has been a notable decline in other fish species. Specifically, salmon exports rose by 587.6 million kroner, with the value increasing by 11 percent and the quantity by 17 percent. Similarly, cod exports grew by 69 million kroner, which is approximately a seven percent increase.
In terms of percentage decline, the most significant drop was observed in herring, where exports plummeted by 84.5 percent, followed by black-backed cod, which saw a decrease of 43.6 percent.
