Negotiations between teachers and the Icelandic government are set to take place today, following the decision by teachers to proceed with a strike at nine schools across the country, starting on October 29, unless an agreement is reached.

The National Mediator will facilitate discussions between the teachers and representatives from both the state and local municipalities. The mediation session will include a negotiation committee from the Icelandic Teachers’ Union, composed of the chairs of its seven member associations.

If the strike goes ahead, it will affect four preschools, three elementary schools, one upper secondary school, and one music school. The outcome of today’s talks could significantly impact the educational landscape in Iceland, as teachers seek resolution in their contract dispute.
