Lemur from Aalborg Zoo captured after three-day escape

A lemur from Aalborg Zoo spent approximately three days on the run after escaping from its enclosure on Saturday. Today, the lemur was spotted by a dog walker, who notified the zoo, leading to its safe capture. A video released by the zoo confirms that the lemur is now back in its rightful place.

This particular lemur, a ring-tailed species, is noted for its distinctive black and white striped fur, resembling a fugitive. The male lemur, who had been on the loose since the weekend, possesses impressive jumping abilities, prompting zookeepers to advise caution.

“Sometimes he is high up in the trees, and other times he is down on the ground. He can leap up to 25 meters,” explained chief zookeeper Louise Møller Boye.

The animal was nearly caught on Sunday evening when it was discovered sitting in a tree on Bejsebakkevej, just outside the zoo. Residents were warned not to attempt to capture the lemur themselves.

“He is away from his group and unfamiliar with the area he is in now, so he might bite in a stressful situation. They have quite sharp teeth,” Møller Boye cautioned.

According to reports, the lemur was eventually captured today on Magnoliavej, approximately 1.5 kilometers from Aalborg Zoo.
