Former ice hockey player Janne Puhakka was tragically killed in a suspected homicide on Sunday in Henttaa, Espoo. Reports indicate that Rolf Nordmo, Puhakka’s 66-year-old Norwegian partner, is being investigated as a suspect in the case. Police have confirmed the death of a man from a gun-related incident within a private residence but have not publicly identified either party involved.

Puhakka had openly discussed his relationship with Nordmo, whom he first met online while playing hockey in Canada from 2013 to 2015. In their book, “Ulos kopista,” co-authored with Risto Pakarinen and published in 2022, Puhakka describes Nordmo as “stylish” and “elegantly gray-haired” but “eternally youthful” at the same time, depicting him as a gentleman.

The couple lived together on a municipal property in Henttaa, with Puhakka owning half of their duplex home and Nordmo the other half. Before their relationship, Nordmo had been married and has three children with his ex-wife.

Puhakka initially hesitated to present Nordmo as his partner due to concerns about public perception, requesting those in the know to refer to him as a family friend. They publicly moved in together in 2019, around the same time Puhakka candidly shared his sexual orientation in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat.

During his career, Puhakka was a professional ice hockey player, notably playing for the Finnish league team Blues in the 2015-2016 season and later in France before retiring. Currently, he appeared in the television series “Petolliset,” which is produced by Nelonen, although the network has announced it will not air the season finale scheduled for Thursday.
