Police confirm death after car plunges into sea near Rissa in Norway
Late on Sunday evening, police received reports of a car that had fallen into the sea near Rissa in Indre Fosen. By Monday morning, authorities confirmed that the occupant of the vehicle had died. The deceased’s relatives have been notified.
According to police, divers located a person inside the car, who was subsequently extracted and flown to St. Olavs Hospital. The individual has been described as critically injured. After examining the vehicle and the surrounding area, divers have concluded that no additional individuals are being sought, stated police operations leader Lars Erik Aftret Nilsen.
Local residents alerted authorities when they spotted the car at the water’s edge. Efforts to recover the vehicle were ongoing, with multiple boats remaining on site as of 10:30 pm. Emergency services are present alongside the vessel Sar Queen and the diving teams.
Reports indicate that the car was situated 8 to 10 meters from the dock and at a depth of approximately 6 to 7 meters. Police were notified of the incident just before 8 pm on Sunday evening. The Main Rescue Centre, when contacted, declined to comment on the ongoing operation, directing inquiries to the police.
