During the autumn holidays, many vacationers head to timeshare properties. A timeshare allows individuals to enjoy a designated week or multiple weeks at a chosen destination. One leading company in this sector, Holiday Club, has sold approximately 100,000 timeshares to Finnish customers over the years, equating to about 2,500 vacation properties. Finland is well-known as a popular location for timeshares, with around 4,000 new buyers each year according to the company. The prices for a timeshare range from €5,000 to €30,000, influenced significantly by the property’s location and chosen rental week, according to Sampo Peisa, the sales manager at Holiday Club.

Buyers come from various backgrounds, united by a desire for enjoyable vacations without the hassle of maintenance and cleaning, included in the annual fee. However, a downside to this ease is the potential depreciation of timeshares as financial investments. Online discussions suggest that the value of timeshares can decrease significantly within a few years, with private sellers listing their properties on various platforms, such as Huutokaupat.com.

A recent buyer, Heli Seppälä from Heinola, has acquired three timeshares over the year for personal use and plans to rent them out when not needed. She purchased one for €180, another for €60, and, remarkably, secured a third for just €2, which accommodates up to six people with an annual fee of €300. Although selling a timeshare can take years, Holiday Club does facilitate resale, with processes and prices varying case by case.
