Search continues for two polar bears near Laugarfell in Iceland

No decision has been made regarding the continuation of the search for two polar bears reported by foreign tourists at Laugarfell, northeast of Snæfellsjökull. According to Ásgeir Erlendsson, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, two tourists claimed to have seen the bears in the area yesterday.

Following reports, the East Iceland Police conducted a search in the region where the tourists were located. However, only footprints belonging to the tourists were found at the site, with no further signs detected, neither from large animals nor smaller ones.

The Coast Guard deployed a helicopter equipped with night vision to scan a large search area last night, but nothing was located. The terrain includes various rock formations and terrain inconsistencies, covered in snow, which can mislead untrained observers. This is believed to have contributed to the uncertainty surrounding the reports.

Efforts to locate the bears will continue, but as of now, no conclusions or further findings have been reached.
