The upcoming party leader debate in Agenda this Sunday will maintain a familiar format, but with a new feature for both viewers and participants. According to host Camilla Kvartoft, “Previously, we have had duels and questions from the audience. This time, party leaders will use response buttons to indicate ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on certain questions, which should make it clearer for viewers how the parties differ.”

The debate topics will include taxes and benefits, antisemitism and Islamophobia, young offenders, and energy sources like nuclear and wind power. Kvartoft noted, “There have been several lean years as the government focused on combating inflation. Now, the government believes there are funds available for new reforms, but the question remains on how to allocate this money. They want to reduce taxes, particularly for high earners, while the opposition is critical and aims to increase certain benefits and invest in welfare. We can expect a classic left-right debate on this topic.”

Regarding the pressing issue of youth crime, discussions will center on how to address young offenders and methods to prevent recruitment into criminal gangs. “The number of children being used by gang criminals has increased significantly. We will discuss what to do with criminal minors in Sweden today—should punishments be heightened or should support for them be adjusted in some way?” Kvartoft added.
