Man caught selling puff bars to students in Grindsted, Denmark

For approximately a year and a half, the sale of e-cigarettes with exotic flavors has been prohibited in Denmark. These products, which often resemble candy, are now restricted to tobacco and menthol flavors as of April 1, 2022. This regulation did not deter a 47-year-old man from Vejle, who was caught selling puff bars to school students in Grindsted. Authorities were alerted by suspicious individuals, leading police to discover a bag of puff bars near the school.

Local SSP consultant Thomas Sander Nielsen remarked on the exchange of these products among students, indicating that popularity varies in the area. He described puff bars as problematic due to the uncertainty regarding nicotine content inhaled when using them, stating that it could be significantly higher than that found in traditional cigarettes. Nielsen emphasized the risks, particularly for young people, and highlighted the lack of transparency regarding the origins and production standards of such products.

As of April 1, 2022, any flavors other than tobacco and menthol have been illegal in Denmark. Puff bars are known to contain high nicotine levels, which is harmful to the brain development of children and adolescents and is highly addictive. To combat this, Nielsen advises parents to engage in conversations with their children about these products while being cautious not to come off as overly critical, which may discourage open dialogue. He also encourages parents to lead by example by avoiding the use of puff bars themselves.
