On Thursday, a preparatory meeting will take place at the Court of the Faroe Islands concerning the final payout for members of the Teachers’ Union.
In January of this year, 68 members of the Teachers’ Union filed a lawsuit. The number has now increased to 80 members participating in the case. They are seeking to invalidate a decision made at the annual meeting on April 29 of last year, which aimed to eliminate the final payout from the mutual insurance for members.
The Teachers’ Union is demanding a free judgment.
A significant majority supported the motion at last year’s annual meeting, with 280 votes in favor of eliminating the final payout, and 61 votes against it. On June 7, 2000, a unanimous decision was made at an annual meeting to amend the mutual insurance, allowing members to receive 100,000 DKK upon reaching 67 years of age. This established a financial obligation for the members to continue contributing to the scheme.
During last year’s annual meeting, a member proposed that the final payout be removed for all members entirely, which was accepted.
The court date for the case has not yet been set.
